On the evening of the 16th of February, I was kindly invited to observe and photograph just one of the lessons that The Makeup Academy has to offer as part of its several makeup courses available.
All of the classes are ran by Jane Clappison, who is an absolute delight! She chatted with me and answered all of my questions about her makeup school.

She explained the details of the specific course I’d be sitting in on, and that when it was fully completed the pupils were awarded with a Level 3 VTCT qualification in Fashion & Photographic Makeup.
I also discovered that the session that night marked the halfway point of the 12 week course. The pupils aim for the lesson was to complete their 3rd assessment of a total of 6 that they are expected to complete.
Which meant that during this particular class, instead of being given a tutorial of a look by Jane, to then put into practice themselves like they would normally do, the students were left to their own devices to fully complete a ‘Bridal’ look that they had been planning and working on for the past 2 weeks.
It was very impressive how professional and natural all the ladies where when conducting their final looks on their models. I noticed each of the girls brought their own kits along with them to use, and there was also a large display of high quality makeup products that The Makeup Academy had which they had the option to utilize also.
To me, they all possessed the aura and skillset that matched fully qualified makeup artists I’d been to personally in the past.
This, in my opinion, is fully credited to Jane who seems to be an excellent teacher. She was great at instantly resolving any dilemma or query that any of the students had, and was a constant source of reassurance for the girls.
Every single lady there was enjoying themselves, and the class on a whole had a very fun and laid back vibe to it with everybody chatting whilst they worked away.
The final outcome of the students work that I got to see was just gorgeous. All the students looks where different to each others, but all were equally as stunning.
The Makeup Academy is the perfect place to go if you have an active interest and love for makeup and you’re wishing to improve your skills, no matter what your current experience is. Jane instantly makes you feel at ease and clearly knows her stuff in the wonderful world of makeup.
I myself can’t wait to return to The Makeup Academy, hopefully next time as a student!
I hope this post inspires some of you to pop along too and to realise that although it can be daunting, makeup is also meant to be enjoyed!
